Swagata Biswas’ ‘Waves’ Is the Ray of Hope We All Need Right Now

“Tell me what you’re feeling, are you drowning or drifting away? In a sea of unsolved sorrows, keep your head above it will be okay.”

- Lyrics from ‘Waves’ by Swagata Biswas

After our second summer of COVID, masks on, off, and back on again, and a high tension political climate- I know I can’t be the only one who feels thoroughly exhausted after what was supposed to be the highly anticipated hot girl summer to make up for our previous quarantined one.

It’s easy to feel broken down these days. Every day the news has heartbreak in its headlines, too many red charts, and I know I can’t be the only one who is grasping at straws when trying to feel hope most days. In all honesty, most of the time I just want someone to tell me, yes, things are rough, but everything’s going to be okay- and that’s where Swagata Biswas comes in.

Perhaps fitting for 2020, Swagata Biswas, a New York native, followed her 2019 single, ‘Lens’, with her 2020 single, ‘Waves’. ‘Waves’ is a sweet and melodic single that doesn’t just make you feel seen but also fills your soul to the brim with hope and the sense that yes, in one way or another, everything is going to be okay

Now, as of August 19th, Biswas has gifted us with the music video for ‘Waves’, and it couldn’t be more fitting for the song. Directed by Ben Fraternale, the video tells a story of Biswas taking control over her life and making her own dreams happen. It will hit close to home to anyone who’s spent long days commuting between work – dreaming of more. Not to mention, it features some beautiful ocean shots that will make anyone feel a bit more serene.

Biswas is the beam of light, hope, and tenderness we could all use right now. When she sings, she sings to everyone that’s tuning into her music, and lets you know that she sees you, your struggles, and that the light at the end of the tunnel is always closer than you think.

The waves crash down but reveal smooth sand, rolls, and rumbles to a calm silence. The waves crash down but reveals smooth sand, the sun falls, but it rises again.” - Lyrics from ‘Waves’ by Swagata Biswas
